Stanford to Startup: Following Curiosity
Cristian didn’t set out to build a legacy tool. His background in symbolic systems at Stanford pushed him toward the intersection of language and technology. “My journey from studying symbolic systems at Stanford to exploring how thoughtful technology can shape the future has always been driven by one thing, curiosity,” he says.
That curiosity led him to create Walter, an AI that acts like a personal historian, someone who listens, remembers, and helps shape your story. The concept is pretty simple. You talk to Walter regularly, and those conversations get turned into narratives your family can access someday. No writing required. No journaling discipline needed. Just talking about your day, your thoughts and your life. It’s that simple.

Cristian’s approach is different. “Think of Walter as a self-prompting journal,” Cristian explains. “You go through life and stuff happens, and you want to document the raw emotions as they happen to us.” There’s something powerful about catching a moment while you’re still feeling it. Not a week later. Not years later when the edges have softened. Right now. “There’s a unique glimpse into our lived experience from the first-person point of view of it happening in real time,” he says. That’s the part that gets Cristian excited. “This used to be a privilege reserved only to the wealthiest and most influential people,” he points out. “But now we can turn every single one of our heroes, the people, our parents, our teachers, our mentors, our coaches, and really have their wisdom and knowledge preserved into something much more longer lasting.” It’s democratizing something that used to be for the elite.
